It is very important to prepare a child to read a piece of text, to make it more familiar, and to maximise a child’s sense of achievement. This first set of Task Sheets contains creative and fun activities, carefully designed to prepare your child to read the first book in the ‘Adventures in Bessiebuss’ series: ‘Off To The Farm’.
Why are the Task Sheets so Effective?
Reading is the recognition of symbols (e.g. ‘th’ ‘ow’ ‘eigh’ ‘au’), and whole words. However, we cannot recognise something we have not seen before. This is what the Task Sheets provide: an opportunity for these sounds and words to be seen frequently, to make recognition more likely. As children only encountered these symbols in words, not in isolation, that is where I have used them, for effective and easy practice.
