Why you need Playing with Sounds
Struggling readers need lots of support. The Task sheets in Playing with Sounds contain creative, colourful and fun activities, designed to prepare a child to read each book in the Adventures in Bessiebuss series. Work through the Task Sheets for each reading book with your child, and be delighted when your child reads well and gains a sense of achievement.
Why are the Task Sheets so Effective?
Reading is the recognition of symbols for sounds that make up words (e.g. th in that, ow in cow, or oo in too). It is also the recognition of whole words written in sentences. However, readers cannot recognise something they have not seen before. Work through the Task Sheets first with your child, and lots of sounds and words will be seen frequently. This makes recognition much easier. You will be practising the symbols for sounds in words for easy and effective recognition. Children do not need to read symbols for sounds in isolation,
Mind Mapping is an important part of this process. Each sound is Mind Mapped in the Task Sheets, to aid recognition.
Getting Started
The books in the Adventures in Bessiebuss series, will seem much more familiar and easier to read, if the Task Sheets are completed first.
The Task sheets have clear and easy to follow instructions for parents! There is also a Bingo Game to accompany each sound.
